Russian Museum has a unique collection of monuments on the completeness of Old Art, is many times greater than all existing similar collections. The collection was formed four centuries from different sources.
Much of the collection came into the Russian Museum in 1897 from the archive things "the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian empire.
